Iranian short wins award at Dhaka Film Festival

Iranian short ‘Still Yet’ has won an award at the 16th edition of the Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) in Bangladesh.

The festival organizers announced winners of the 16th DIFF during a closing ceremony held at the Bangladesh National Museum last weekend.

Arash Yazdani grabbed prize for the Best Short fiction Award in Spiritual Section for his 17-minute film 'Still Yet'.

Produced by the Institute for the Intellectual Development and Young Adults, the short’s synopsis reads “The end is just a happening that we should be waiting for after each beginning….”

Some 28 films from Iran were screened at the biennial event in Bangladesh.

Cinematographer Masoud Salami for ‘Asphyxia’ directed by Fereydoun Jeyrani, actresses Parinaz Izadyar and Mina Sadati for ‘Searing Summer’ directed by Ebrahim Irajzad, and ‘White Bridge’ directed by Ali Qavitan were the other Iranian winners at the event.

Filmmaker Mohsen Amir-Yousefi served on the festival's panel of jury. He was in the panel which presided over the Asian Film Competition, along with Indian filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli, American actor and producer Gary Springer, and Norwegian distributor of feature films Age Hoffart.

Established in 1992, the DIFF is one of the most prestigious film events in Bangladesh, dedicated to introduce the mainstream global cinema to the local filmmakers as well as to promote healthy cine culture within Bangladesh.

The event has been slated for January 12-20, 2018.
